While you may not have heard of rel=”author”, you’ll almost certainly have seen instances of it while using Google. It’s when a Google result is tied to the author’s Google+ profile, showing their Google+ profile picture and a link to their profile.

While it won’t actually increase your Google rankings, it can hugely increase click-through rate, with some reporting a 500% increase in clicks and instances where a lower result (with a Google+ pic) can get a lot more clicks than a higher result (that doesn’t). It’s also great for personal branding and for getting your name out there.

The great thing is that it’s really easy to setup – so much so that there’s going to be a quick live run-through of an example of implementation during the presentation!

We’ll also cover rel=”publisher”, which is the equivalent for companies/brands – giving you the opportunity to display your brand’s Google+ profile when people search for your brand in Google.
